According to Wikipedia, the first clothespin was a
single wooden piece, called a clothes-peg. It was designed by the Shaker
community in the 1700’s. In the 1800’s, the clothes-peg was revised several times into the three-part wooden clothespin that still we know and use
today.
A search for clothespin on Etsy will generate over
7,000 listings and it is very interesting to see how crafters are transforming
them. In addition to traditional clothes hangers, they
have now become decorative organizers, party favors, fancy magnets, and miniature dolls. Ease on over to Etsy and check it out!
Having created my first clothespin painting, I feel
the clothes-peg deserves at least a chance. After all, it was the original design…
This is how my creative process begins. I’ll see something and it triggers an idea. That idea leads to another, and so on. Then I’ll
become curious and feel compelled to learn even more about the objects, their history,
or other trivia. It’s all about sweating the small stuff ~
Curiosity rekindled the cat ;)

Great job on the painting. I really like that you took something so "common" and created a painting from it. The trivia made it even more interesting. Cute kitty!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vicki! This was a fun little painting and I plan to create similar pieces. Hopefully the kitty will enjoy the clothes-peg just as much!
ReplyDeleteAs always you have a way of taking something so simple and reminding people there are things around us everyday that shouldn't be overlooked, just because they seem simple...
ReplyDeleteThanks for taking the time to comment, A! I've always been a big fan of small & simple :)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't this make doing laundry so much more pleasant! Beautiful work Eve, I also enjoyed the trivia. I may have to borrow your idea ;) Happy Weekend! xx Jaime
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jaime! At least the task of hanging laundry would be prettier :) but so glad the ol' dryer is working. Borrow away! Happy to share.
ReplyDeleteCheers ~Eve
