12x16 Oil on Canvas
This second painting of coffee mugs was intended to resemble my latest work. Although similar in style, it has quite a different color scheme. The change occurred early in the process, with the placement of the pink tones in the smaller mug. Instead of using the same hue of red, I opted for permanent rose, which caused a shift of color selections to the cooler side of the spectrum.I did not realize how this seemingly subtle change in one tone would affect the overall flow of the painting, until I completed the green mug. So, instead of making revisions to everything I had done up to that point, I followed the direction it was taking me and came up with something out of the 70’s… One could either call this poor planning or a happy accident J
I still find it hard to believe my sister is a coffee drinker. She tried it early in life and didn’t like it at all. But on one sunny afternoon, everything changed for her.About ten years ago, while Mom and I stood in line for our hot drinks, my sister waited patiently near the front entrance of the café, next to the samples. Something caused my sister to try a sample, and before we could finish checking out at the register, she jumped in line to purchase a cup of coffee. Mom and I were shocked, to say the least.
When we asked why she felt compelled to try coffee again, she simply replied, “I liked the name… Pumpkin Spice”. ( But of course! :)
