11x14 Oil on Canvas
It has been a while since I’ve painted food and this rendition of cheesecake seemed long overdue. Prior to this, I selected healthy choices such as pears, berries, or fresh vegetables. But I may be more reluctant to do so in the future. There was a marked sense of ease as I recreated this cheesecake on canvas. While applying layers of paint, I relived the experience of love at first sight, where natural light graced the outer edges when the dish was placed on the table. What a nice touch, with the green leafy garnish. I thought it made for a lively contrast with the bright red glaze and wondered if the color choices were made by chance...
So there I was, sitting next my friend, when she reached for her camera without hesitation, and aimed it at the three luscious desserts in front of us. As an amateur spectator, she was taking pictures for documentation purposes, rather than for the artistic qualities of the subject matter. Needless to say, I felt like a Disney World tourist once again, and quickly followed suit, but for slightly different reasons ;)Each dessert was attractive… works of art, drizzled with complimentary brown, red, or yellow syrups. Additional effort had been taken to ensure their visual appeal, even though they would be the same delicious treats, regardless the adornments.
After it was all said and done, I began thinking of how little was done to place the desserts over the top. A dash of this, a garnish of that, and a sizable platter upon which they were displayed, made the ordinary appear just a little sweeter.
